Doolin Coast Guard team was tasked by MRSC Valentia , at 16.50 this evening to an incident close to Moneen Mountain, a climber in difficulty. The team assembled and  went to the area , soon after the climbing party was located in the gorge  . The casualty had fallen approximately 25 feet and had suffered injuries to both ankles and back. The other members of the climbing party had kept the casualty warm and insulated from the ground until further help arrived. Team members maintained the casualty’s C-spine and splinted both legs. The Shannon Coast Guard Helicopter , Rescue 115 , arrived on scene shortly after . Their winch man was lowered and the casualty was collared and boarded and stretchered a further 150 metres to higher ground above the gorge from where he was airlifted to hospital. Galway RNLI members who had been in Doolin visiting the Coast Guard team also assisted with the stretcher carry to the winching area.
