Childrens Wrist bands

Waterproof safety wrist bands are available on request at Libraries throughout Clare from this week. Parents / guardians of children can write their own phone number on the wrist band to be worn by young children . If the child gets lost on a busy beach the parents/guardians can be contacted quickly . The bands also have the Coast Guard emergency contact number 112 printed on them.

Life Guard stations throughout Clare also have the bands.

Climbing ORA

The team successfully completed their annual Climbing Operational Readiness Assessment tonight. The teams equipment , paperwork and individual climbing logs were inspected and later the team were assessed while carrying out three separate scenarios, lowering a paramedic, a walking casualty and a stretcher scenario. Thanks to IRCG CUSM’s Tim O’Keefe and Niall Ferns for travelling to assess the team.

Doolin Coast Guard Art Competition

Some of the winners of the Doolin Coast Guard Art competition , Caoimhe O’Halloran , age 6, Corofin National School and Rachel Cotter, age 8 and Tim O’Dwyer, age 11, Furglan National School with their prizes. Thank you to all the schools who took part in the art competition  . All of the entries will be on display at the new Doolin Coast Guard station when it opens later in the year,  along with the 25 winning entries ,chosen by local artist Cynthia Sinnott. Yacht aground off Straw Island

While on a training  exercise off  Doolin, the Doolin Coast Guard boat was notified by Valentia MRSC, that a yacht was reported to be aground off Straw Island, Inis Mór .The boat team responded to the scene and  transferred a towline from the Inis Mor All Weather Lifeboat to the stricken yacht where it was then towed to Kilronan Harbour by the ALB.

Person reported in the river in Ennis

Doolin Coast team was tasked this evening at 21.15, by MRSC, Valentia ,  to assist with an incident in Ennis. An emergency call had been made and  a person was reported to be in the river. The D-Class boat was brought and the team assembled in Ennis and commenced searches of river banks . The Ennis Fire and Rescue Service, The Civil Defence , the Shannon Coast Guard rescue helicopter, Rescue 115  were all tasked and on scene. River and areas searched with nothing found, all services were stood down.
