Flooding in Miltown Malbay and Doolin

Doolin and Kilkee Coast Guard  Units were tasked tonight to  assist Ennistymon Fire and  Rescue Service and Clare  County Council with severe  flooding in Miltown Malbay. Team members were also tasked to assist in Doolin where they helped prevent flood water entering homes and assisted drivers through floods.

Kilkee search

Doolin Coast Guard team travelled to Kilkee to assist Kilkee Coast Guard Unit with a search in the Kilkee area.Kilkee Coast Guard Unit commenced a land and sea search for a Japanese couple who may be missing in the area after 5.00 in the evening. The Shannon based Coast Guard helicopter , Rescue 115 , assisted and the Doolin team assisted with their D-Class boat and land search teams.

Body Recovery

Doolin Coast Guard completed a recovery of a body from under the Cliffs of Moher this evening. The team were initially tasked to the incident, by MRSC, Valentia, on Friday morning. Team members , with the assistance of the Shannon Coast Guard Helicopter, Rescue 115, confirmed that there was a casualty in a cave under the Cliffs. It was not possible to complete the recovery due to sea conditions. The team had been monitoring the position of the casualty since Friday morning .The Garda Water Unit were tasked to assist . Both Doolin boats were launched and travelled to the location with Garda divers onboard. After several hours , the boat crews and divers successfully completed the recovery and returned to Doolin Pier.

Leg injury north of O’Briens Tower

Doolin Coast Guard Unit was tasked by MRSC, Valentia , to assist the HSE Ambulance attending to a walker on the Cliff path North of O’Briens Tower. The team assembled , treated the casualty who had sustained a lower leg injury and stretchered her to the waiting Ambulance .A member of Kilkee Coast Guard unit, visiting the Doolin Station, assisted with the evacuation.

Boat with engine failure

Doolin Coast Guard Unit was tasked by MRSC, Valentia, late in the evening, to assist a boat with engine failure in Liscannor Bay. Team members assembled and took the D-Class by road to Liscannor while other team members went to Liscannor . On arrival at Liscannor Pier , team members found the boat being recovered , having been able to restart the engine.

Capsized Dinghy

Doolin Coast Guard Unit was tasked by MRSC Valentia , earlier today to an incident South of Hags Head. A charter boat had called Shannon Coast Guard Radio to request assistance when a dinghy that had been launched from their boat capsized. The dinghy , with two people on  board, had capsized close to shore at Lough na Saggart .The team assembled and launched the D-Class and Delta boats and proceeded to the location . The D-Class boat took crew ashore , they confirmed that both persons on shore were not injured. They took them on board the D-Class and they were transferred back to the charter boat where they changed into dry clothes, they did not require any medical assistance. The D-Class then returned to the shore to tow the dinghy back out where it was taken on board the charter boat. The Delta and-Class returned to base .
