On Saturday, 09 May at 19-25 hours MRSC Valentia tasked the Doolin Coast Guard team to investigate a report from a member of the public that barrels containing toxic substances were washed up at two locations, one was at Lahinch beach and one at Clahane, west of Liscannor Pier. Search teams were dispatched, containers were located and contents examined. They were later transported to Coast Guard Rescue Center, Doolin. They were safely stored until collection by Clare Co. Council officials on Monday.

The owner of the boat had earlier swam ashore after engine failure and left the boat on anchor, but the tide was filling and there was a danger the boat would break it’s mooring as it was in the surf off Clahane. The Doolin Coast Guard D-class boat was launched at Liscannor pier and proceeded to Clahane. On arrival, the crew came along side the stricken boat and took it on tow back to Liscannor pier.
