volvo-ocean-020Last night, Doolin Coast Guard lit and maintained a watch on a bonfire just north of Doolin Point. This was one of many bonfires lighting all along the Coastline of Galway Bay to welcome the Volvo Ocean Race to Ireland. The first boat, Sony Ericsson 4, rounded the South side of Inis Óirr at 00.15 last night. The boats later entered Galway Docks to a waiting crowd of over 10,000 people. The Green Dragon came in at 04.15 , in 3rd place.

The Doolin Coast Guard Delta was on safety duty since earlier in the evening .
